Sutter brothers in the NHL

Six of seven Sutter brothers played in the NHL. The seventh brother, Gary, had the opportunity but did not pursue a hockey career. How the brothers fared in the NHL:

Brent: Played for the New York Islanders and Chicago Blackhawks during his 18-year career and recorded 829 points. Won Stanley Cup titles with the Islanders in 1982 and 1983, along with his brother Duane. Coached the New Jersey Devils from 2007 to 2009 and has been the Calgary Flames’ coach since 2009.

Brian: Played 12 seasons, all with the St. Louis Blues, appearing in three All-Star games before becoming a head coach with the Blues, Boston Bruins, Calgary and Chicago. Had 636 career points, including 303 goals. Currently coaching in the Chinook Hockey League in Canada.

Darryl: Played for Chicago and scored 279 points (161 goals, 118 assists) in eight seasons. Darryl spent 11 seasons coaching the Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks and Calgary, and he has been the Kings’ coach since last month.

Duane: Won the Stanley Cup in each of his first four seasons with the Islanders, He also played for Chicago during his 11-year career, finishing with 342 points. Coached the Florida Panthers for parts of the 2000-01 and 2001-02 seasons and is a scout for the Edmonton Oilers.

Rich: Played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis, Chicago, Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning (315 points in 13 seasons). Currently out of hockey.

Ron: Rich’s twin played from 1982 to 2001 for Philadelphia, St. Louis, the Quebec Nordiques, New York Islanders, Boston, San Jose and Calgary. Finished with 205 goals and 328 assists in 19 seasons. Now the Flames’ director of player development.
