UCLA to install new football practice fields
Pauley Pavilion isn’t the only UCLA athletic site receiving a face-lift.
UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero confirmed Tuesday that new synthetic and natural grass field surfaces will be installed in August at the football team’s practice facility at Spaulding Field.
The $1.2-million project is expected to be completed before the Bruins return to Westwood for practices after opening camp in San Bernardino. The synthetic and natural turf fields will remain 80 yards long.
The turf at Spaulding Field was last replaced in 2006.
The Bruins and their fans will also benefit from a renovation project underway at the Rose Bowl.
The Rose Bowl project is running behind schedule, but Guerrero says many of the renovations -- including tunnel widening and partial reconstruction of the former press box area -- will be completed during the upcoming season.
