Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not play vs. Ravens

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will not play for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday when they face their AFC North rivals the Baltimore Ravens, according to an NFL.com report.

Roethlisberger is still recovering from a sprained right shoulder and a dislocated rib he suffered in Week 10 against the Kansas City Chiefs.

That means the Steelers’ No. 3 quarterback, Charlie Batch, will start again for the Steelers.

Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, Batch’s performance in the Steelers’ 20-14 loss last week to the paltry Cleveland Browns was a lot of things, but positive wasn’t one of them.

The veteran clipboard holder went 20-of-34 passing for 199 yards with three interceptions and no touchdowns. Although he didn’t get much help from the team’s stable of running backs, who rushed for a combined 49 yards.

Roethlisberger was initially replaced by backup Byron Leftwich in Week 10 after the Chiefs’ Tamba Hali landed a heavy blow that knocked the star quarterback out of the game. However, Leftwich was able to carry the Steelers to an overtime victory, 16-13.

The following week, the Steelers weren’t so lucky, as Leftwich went 18-of-39 passing for 199 yards with an interception, and Pittsburgh lost to the Ravens, 13-10.

The Ravens got to Leftwich only three times, but that was more than enough. He suffered fractured ribs during the game and was ruled out for the team’s Week 12 matchup against the Browns.
