USC 50, Colorado 6 (final)

The Trojans improved to 6-1 and set a slew of records in the game.

--Receiver Robert Woods became USC’s all-time receptions leader in the second quarter when he hauled in a 17-yard-touchdown catch, giving him 217 catches to breaking the Dwayne Jarrett’s record of 216 set from 2004-06. Woods finished with eight catches for 132 yards and set a school record by catching four touchdowns.

--Quarterback Matt Barkley threw his 100th career touchdown pass in the second quarter when he and Woods connected on a 29-yard score, making Barkley the Pac-12 Conference’s all-time leader in touchdown passes. Barkley finished the game with an incredible stat-line -- 19-of-20, 298 yards and a school-record tying six touchdown passes -- and he exited the game midway through the third quarter.

--And USC set a single-game school record with seven touchdown passes in one game. The seventh was thrown by Barkley’s backup, Max Wittek.

USC 50, Colorado 6 (5:34 left in the fourth quarter)

Barry Switzer used to tell his Oklahoma squads to hang half a hundred on opponents.

With USC kicker Andre Heidari’s 37-yard field goal, the Trojans have reached that mark against the hapless, helpless, hopeless Colorado Buffaloes.

Cody Kessler, the second backup (read: third-string) quarterback, led USC on that drive, which began with a Colorado turnover, the Buffaloes’ sixth of the game.

USC 47, Colorado 6 (11:11 left in the fourth quarter)

Ominous clouds are sitting above the Coliseum. It looks like it might rain.

Regardless of whether it does, though, USC is pouring it on.

With their backups, mind you.

Quarterback Max Wittek, in for Matt Barkley, who threw six touchdown passes and was then given a chance to rest midway through the third quarter, threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Morgan, giving Wittek his first career touchdown pass.

The six-play drive spanned 80 yards and lasted 3 minutes 2 seconds.

USC has also set a single-game school record with seven touchdown passes in a game.

USC 40, Colorado 6 (10:55 left in the third quarter)

Robert Woods established a school record with his fourth touchdown catch, a three-yard strike from Matt Barkley.

Barkley has completed 19 of 20 passes for 298 yards and six touchdowns, tying his own record for touchdown passes in a game.

Woods has eight receptions for 132 yards.

The touchdown was set up by linebacker Tony Burnett’s interception and 55-yard return.

USC left tackle Aundrey Walker was carted off the field because of an undisclosed injury. Walker fell to the ground after a play that went to the opposite side of the field.

USC 33, Colorado 6 (Halftime)

USC quarterback Matt Barkley has completed 16 of 17 passes for 264 yards and five touchdowns.

The Trojans could be leading by even more if not for two fumbles.

Receiver Robert Woods has six receptions for 106 yards and three touchdowns. Marqise Lee has five catches for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Despite the celebratory mood in the Coliseum, the Trojans have not been completely sharp.

Barkley lost a fumble when he was hit from behind and tight end Xavier Grimble lost a fumble after a catch late in the second quarter.

Colorado quarterback Jordan Webb has completed eight of 19 passes for 88 yards.

USC 33, Colorado 6 (6:52 left in the second quarter)

Robert Woods became USC’s all-time receptions leader by making a 17-yard touchdown catch.

Woods, a junior, has 217 receptions, breaking the record of 216 that Dwayne Jarrett set from 2004-06.

Woods has five catches for 101 yards and three touchdowns.

Matt Barkley, who earlier set the Pac-12 Conference record for career touchdown passes, has completed 13 of 14 passes for 249 yards and five touchdowns.

Marqise Lee has five catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.

USC 26, Colorado 6 (12:15 left in second quarter)

USC quarterback Matt Barkley connected with Robert Woods on a 29-yard touchdown pass play to become the Pac-12 Conference’s all-time leader in touchdown passes.

Barkley, a four-year starter, has 100 touchdowns. He has completed eight of nine passes for 178 yards and four touchdowns against the Buffaloes.

Woods has four receptions, including two touchdowns, and is tied with Dwayne Jarrett with 216 career receptions.

After Barkley’s fourth touchdown, the Coliseum video board showed congratulatory messages from Matt Leinart, who had held the career record, Carson Palmer, Clippers players Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, former USC coach Pete Carroll, former Trojans receiver Keyshawn Johnson, former Los Angeles Kings star Luc Robitaille and Galaxy star Landon Donovan.

USC 19, Colorado 6 (14:40 left in the second quarter)

Will Oliver has kicked two field goals for Colorado on consecutive possessions.

USC quarterback Matt Barkley needs one touchdown pass to break Matt Leinart’s career record of 99.

Barkley passed for three touchdowns to give the Trojans a 19-0 lead.

Colorado appeared to cut the deficit when Jordan Webb connected with receiver Gerald Thomas for a 16-yard touchdown pass. But upon review, officials ruled that Thomas was out of bounds.

Colorado eventually scored on a 27-yard field goal by Oliver.

Barkley has completed all six of his passes for 110 yards, but fumbled when he was sacked late in the first quarter.

Oliver’s 37-yard field goal cut the deficit to 13 points.

Receiver Robert Woods has caught three passes, including one he turned into a 39-yard touchdown. Woods is two receptions shy of USC’s career record.

USC 19, Colorado 0 (9:03 left in the first quarter)

Matt Barkley has passed for three touchdowns to tie the Pac-12 Conference record for career touchdown passes. He has 99.

Barkley connected with receiver Robert Woods on a 39-yard scoring play and with tight end Xavier Grimble on an eight-yard touchdown pass in a span of less than a minute.

Colorado helped the Trojans by committing turnovers on consecutive possessions.

USC safety Drew McAllister intercepted a pass by Jordan Webb in the end zone to set up Woods’ touchdown.

On the next series, USC middle linebacker Lamar Dawson forced Colorado running back Christian Powell to fumble. McAllister recovered the ball and USC needed two plays to score.

USC Coach Lane Kiffin is giving future opponents something to think about on conversion attempts.

Punter Kyle Negrete has apparently replaced Cody Kessler as the holder for kicker Andre Heidari. Negrete ran the ball in for an apparent two-point conversion after Woods’ touchdown, but the play was nullified because of a holding penalty. Heidari’s kick then hit the upright.

After Grimble’s touchdown, receiver Marqise Lee lined up in the shotgun formation and tried to run for a two-point conversion. But he was stopped short of the right pylon.

USC 7, Colorado 0 (14:10 left in the first quarter)

Well, that didn’t take very long.

USC needed two plays to score, Matt Barkley connecting with Robert Woods for 11 yards and a first down, and then Barkley connecting with Marqise Lee on a 55-yard touchdown pass play.

Barkley needs three touchdowns to break the Pac-12 Conference record for touchdown passes in a career.

Woods needs four catches to become USC’s all-time receptions leader.

USC came out in a no-huddle offense, so it’s obvious that Coach Lane Kiffin wants to make a statement about the capability of his offense.

Pregame

It’s about 10 minutes from kickoff at the Coliseum, where No. 11 USC is likely to have a record-setting day.

USC’s oft-criticized offense is primed to have a big day against a poor Colorado defense.

Quarterback Matt Barkley should pass for the four touchdowns he needs to break Matt Leinart’s conference record 99. It won’t be a surprise if Coach Lane Kiffin gives Barkley an opportunity to also establish a single-game record of seven touchdowns.

Robert Wood also should get the five catches he needs to eclipse Dwayne Jarertt’s career receptions record of 216.

Of course, maybe Colorado will surprise and make this a tough game for the Trojans.

But USC is a 40-point favorite for a reason.

It could be a long day for the Buffaloes.
