Michigan QB Denard Robinson has a game to forget vs. Notre Dame
Denard Robinson has had a couple of unforgettable games against Notre Dame over the last couple of years.
On Saturday, the Michigan quarterback had one he surely wishes he could forget.
Robinson had four passes intercepted -- in the first half, then turned the ball over on a fumble on the Wolverines’ opening drive of the second half as No. 18 Michigan fell to the No. 11 Fighting Irish, 13-6, in South Bend, Ind.
After burning Notre Dame for 948 yards of total offense in victories the last two years, Robinson completed 13 of 24 passes for 138 yards, no touchdowns and four interceptions to go with 90 rushing yards in 26 carries on Saturday.
Even with all of Robinson’s miscues, the Wolverines actually were in the game until the finish. They got all the way to the Notre Dame six-yard line on their final drive, but Robinson was sacked for an eight-yard loss and then threw an incomplete pass to force Michigan to settle for a field goal and a 13-6 score with 3:27 remaining.
The Wolverines never got the ball back after the Irish got a key pair of first downs to run out the clock.
Michigan began shooting itself in the foot long before Robinson started causing any damage. Its first three drives ended in a punt, a missed field-goal attempt and an interception thrown by running back Vincent Smith from the Notre Dame 10.
Then Robinson got in on the action, with all four of his second-quarter pass attempts picked off by Notre Dame players, including two interceptions by Manti Te’o. It was the second straight week the Irish defenders held their opponents without a touchdown.
