Usain Bolt breezes to 200 title at worlds

Usain Bolt almost worked up more of a sweat dancing Saturday than he did in dashing to the 200-meter title at the world track and field championships in Moscow.

Bolt, who had tired legs and an aching foot, clocked 19.66 seconds despite easing up about 60 meters to go. He hopped and skipped to the reggae sounds of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds,” much to the thrill of the crowd.

In the women’s 400 relay, Russia beat the United States, which was without the injured Allyson Felix, by 0.22 seconds. In the women’s 100 hurdles, Brianna Rollins of the U.S. used a late surge to win in 12.44 seconds.

In the men’s marathon, Olympic champion Stephen Kiprotich of Uganda pulled away late in the race and won in 2:09:51, 21 seconds ahead of Boston Marathon winner Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia.

NFL: EJ Manuel out for exhibition season

Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel will sit out the rest of the preseason after injuring his left knee in the Bills’ exhibition game Friday. The Bills said Manuel will have “a minor knee procedure” and be reevaluated after that.

San Diego Chargers announced that wide receiver Eddie Royal had a bruised lung and was being evaluated for a concussion after landing hard on his back while making a catch in practice Saturday. The team said he has a bruised lung and was being evaluated for a concussion.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Ohio State suspends two

Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer said that cornerback Bradley Roby, who faces misdemeanor assault charges from a bar altercation, and cornerback Rod Smith, who violated team rules last winter, will be suspended for at least the Aug. 31 opener. Meyer added that Roby could face additional discipline by the team.

Notre Dame linebacker Danny Spond told his teammates his playing days are over because of an unspecified medical issue, Coach Brian Kelly said. Spond had a health scare last preseason when he was struck with a headache so severe doctors were concerned he may have had a stroke.

TENNIS: Isner moves on to Ohio final

Unseeded John Isner, who had been 0-4 against Juan Martin del Potro, rallied to upset the seventh-seeded Argentine, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (9), 6-3, in a Western & Southern Open semifinal at Mason, Ohio. Isner will next play third-seeded Rafael Nadal, who beat sixth-seeded Tomas Berdych, 7-5, 7-6 (4). In the women’s final, Serena Williams will play the winner of Victoria Azarenka and Jelena Jankovic. Williams eliminated defending champion Li Na, 7-5, 7-5, in the semifinals.

GOLF: Europeans cling to Solheim Cup lead

Thanks to a hole in one by Anna Nordqvist on the 175-yard 17th hole, Europe led the U.S., 6 1/2 points to 5 1/2, after the second day of the Solheim Cup at Parker, Colo. Nordqvist’s ace gave her and Caroline Hedwall a come-from-behind 2-and-1 victory over Morgan Pressel and Jessica Korda.
