Galaxy signs Mike Magee, Colin Clark and Brian Perk

The Galaxy announced Tuesday that it has signed midfielders Mike Magee and Colin Clark and goalkeeper Brian Perk for the 2013 season.

The signing of Magee, who played a key role in the team’s successive MLS Cup victories, was a big one given the team’s uncertain status in the midfield. With David Beckham retiring from MLS play and the return of captain Landon Donovan and Juninho uncertain, the Galaxy could enter preseason camp later this month without three midfield starters from last season.

In four seasons with the Galaxy, Magee has 13 goals and 11 assists in 95 regular-season games, but he’s been almost unstoppable in the postseason, scoring eight times in 17 games. Magee actually agreed to terms on a new deal last month but the team chose not to announce it until Tuesday.

Magee, 28, who had a base salary of $124,135 last season, was due a significant raise although terms of the deal were not released.

Clark, selected by the Galaxy in last month’s reentry draft, is a seven-year MLS vet who spent the last two seasons with the Houston Dynamo, helping them to consecutive MLS Cup appearances. The 28-year-old appeared in 14 games last season, scoring once. Clark earned $105,427 last year.

Perk, 23, appeared in a career-high seven games in all competitions last year, including four in the regular season in which he allowed seven goals. Perk, who had a base salary of $76,000 in 2013, is expected to play a backup role again this season with former Chelsea keeper Carlo Cudicini beginning camp as the first choice in goal. The Galaxy acquired Cudicini on a free transfer last week.

Josh Saunders, last year’s starter in goal, is no longer under contract with the Galaxy.
