Jordan Wilson leads Windward over Alemany, 86-72
When Jordan Wilson of Los Angeles Windward High banked in a three-point shot from the top of the key as the first half ended Saturday at Fairfax High, it was a sign he could make anything.
“I was feeling it,” he said.
Wilson made seven three-point baskets and finished with 33 points in Windward’s 86-72 victory over Mission Hills Alemany in the Fairfax State Preview Classic. Windward, ranked No. 7 by The Times in the preseason, is 14-8 and finally playing like a top 25 team. Earlier in the week, the Wildcats knocked off Pacific Hills.
“We’re getting there,” Coach Miguel Villegas said. “The sophomores and freshmen finally know the system.”
Wilson, headed to Northern Colorado, took advantage of the opportunity to show what could do.
“I thought he was unbelievable,” Villegas said. “He hit some big shots.”
In the featured matchup of an eight-game schedule, Bellflower St. John Bosco hung on for a 67-64 victory over Los Angeles Loyola.
Tyler Dorsey scored 23 points and had 15 rebounds for the Braves (17-4). Trey Mason had 28 points, including six three-point shots, for Loyola (16-5) .
Torrance Bishop Montgomery improved to 23-0 after a 79-34 victory over San Diego Lincoln. The Knights led, 57-4, at halftime.
Woodland Hills El Camino Real (21-2), one of the favorites in City Section Division I, had one of its final tough challengers before the playoffs begin, knocking off Orange Lutheran, 65-57. Julian Richardson and Michael Thomas contributed 17 points apiece.
Compton (15-7) upset Santa Monica, 57-54. Isaiah Bailey, who had 14 points, scored with 32 seconds left for a three-point advantage. Kyron Cartwright, a junior guard, led Compton with
21 points. California-bound Jordan Mathews had 20 points for Santa Monica (16-5).
Ountae Campbell made a three-point basket with seven seconds left to give Brentwood (19-2) a 51-50 victory over Rolling Hills Prep.
Gardena Serra, still trying to develop chemistry after an influx of transfer students, improved to 17-5 after a 70-55 victory over Studio City Harvard-Westlake (13-7). Ajon Efferson had 19 points, Tavrion Dawson had 16 points and Ron Freeman had 11.
Price (20-3) defeated San Diego Parker, 56-32. Arizona State-bound Chance Murray had 14 points.
