Galaxy names former MLS player Chris Klein to be team president
The Galaxy on Monday named Chris Klein, a former Galaxy player who had moved to the Major League Soccer team’s front office, to be club president, a post that had been vacant.
Klein, 37, was a vice president of the reigning MLS champions after retiring as a player following the 2010 season.
The St. Louis native spent the last 3 1/2 years of his 12-year playing career with the Galaxy.
Before that he played with Kansas City, where he helped the team win the MLS Cup in 2000, and with Real Salt Lake. Klein also made 22 appearances with the U.S. national team.
“We have always been impressed with Chris’ commitment and desire to excel on the business side of sports,” Tim Leiweke, president and chief executive of Galaxy owner AEG, said in a statement.
Klein will oversee the business operations of the club, whose head coach and general manager is Bruce Arena.
“The Galaxy’s best days are ahead of us and I am thankful that Tim and his team at AEG have the confidence in me to help lead us into the future,” Klein said in a statement.
