AT THE PLATE: After missing two games because of an illness, the Dodgers’ Luis Cruz homered on the third pitch he saw. Alfredo Amezaga was two for two, scoring twice and driving in two runs. He has hits in his last five at-bats. Mark Ellis and Nick Punto also each had two hits for the Dodgers, who have 21 runs and 27 hits in their last two games. For the Angels, Howie Kendrick was three for three with a home run and a double, three runs scored and two RBIs.

ON THE MOUND: Clayton Kershaw gave up two earned runs for the second consecutive start, but he also struck out seven in three innings — giving him 10 strikeouts and no walks in five spring innings. In his first appearance of the year, Dodgers left-hander Ted Lilly gave up Kendrick’s home run but nothing more in two innings. Angels starter Jerome Williams gave up five runs — four earned — five hits and two walks in two innings. He has a spring earned-run average of 11.25 after two outings.

EXTRA BASES: Peter Bourjos struck out in all three of his at-bats for the winless Angels (0-5).
