AT THE PLATE: Third baseman Kaleb Cowart, the team’s top prospect, according to Baseball America, hit a three-run double in the first inning and singled and scored in the third. Scott Cousins hit a solo home run in the sixth, and the Angels broke a 5-5 tie with seven runs in the eighth, an inning that featured Randal Grichuk’s two-run triple and run-scoring doubles by Brendan Harris and Kole Calhoun.
ON THE MOUND: Jerome Williams, who is expected to open the season as a long reliever, gave up two runs and two hits, including Alex Liddi’s two-run homer, in three innings, striking out two and walking one. Barry Enright, who got the win, and Brandon Sisk pitched the final three innings.
EXTRA BASES: Albert Pujols, who was 0 for 3 as the designated hitter in his exhibition debut Tuesday, will spend two days running the bases more aggressively before returning to game action Friday or Saturday. The first baseman had surgery to clean out his right knee in October.
