Colin Kaepernick may be entering the new NFL season as the San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback, but he will be wearing the league’s most popular jersey.

His red No. 7 jersey is listed as the top seller on NFLShop.com, ahead of Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott and New York Giants star receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Kaepernick has been one of the most discussed NFL players in recent weeks because of his refusal to stand for the national anthem before games as a protest against social injustice.

But he has no intention of profiting from the recent headlines. The one-time Super Bowl quarterback wrote Tuesday on Instagram that he plans to donate all the money he makes from jersey sales “back into the communities.”

“I wasn't expecting my jersey sales to jump to number one because of this, but it shows the people's belief that we can achieve justice and equality for ALL!” Kaepernick wrote. “The only way I can repay you for the support is to return the favor by donating all the proceeds I receive from my jersey sales back into the communities! I believe in the people, and WE can be the change!”

Last week, Kaepernick announced he would donate $1 million to aid communities that have been affected by police brutality and other injustices.
