Michigan OC Drevno feels ‘really good’ about RB Smith’s health

Michigan tailback De’Veon Smith is making progress from his injury.tmpplchld A day after backup tailback Derrick Green said Smith was practicing following his ankle/foot injury against BYU, U-M offensive coordinator Tim Drevno confirmed it.tmpplchld Asked whether Drevno expects Smith to play Saturday, he implied that he does.tmpplchld “Yeah, that’s (the) game. He’s working through; he’s doing a nice job right now,” Drevno said Wednesday. “I really feel good about it.”tmpplchld Though Michigan has a four-running back rotation, Smith has started all four games this season, carrying 69 times compared with just 23 for Green, 20 for Ty Isaac and 11 for Drake Johnson.tmpplchld Smith has 331 yards, four touchdowns and has two 100-plus yards games, including his signature 60-yard run against BYU before leaving with the injury.tmpplchld After leaving the field slowly with what U-M officials called a right ankle injury, Smith said after the game his foot and lower leg was in a boot as a “precaution” but had no doubt he would play this week.tmpplchld U-M coach Jim Harbaugh declined to give any information on Monday but Drevno offered a bit more insight.tmpplchld “He’s doing good,” Drevno said. “He’s progressing really, really well.
