EAST LANSING, Mich. Michigan State redshirt freshman defensive end Montez Sweat, who did not play in Saturday’s 35-21 win over Air Force, is “suspended for this point in time” for an undisclosed reason, coach Mark Dantonio said Tuesday.

Dantonio said the suspension is not long-term, but he did not give a timetable for Sweat’s return. Sweat is not on the depth chart for No. 2 MSU’s home game against Central Michigan (1-2) on Saturday (noon, Big Ten Network).

Also on the depth chart, Shane Jones is the No. 1 middle linebacker while starter Riley Bullough sits out the first half under the “targeting” rule. Bullough was ejected late in the Air Force game for a helmet-to-helmet hit.

Senior Arjen Colquhoun is listed as the starting cornerback in place of redshirt freshman Vayante Copeland, who has been lost for the season with a broken vertebra. Dantonio said junior Darian Hicks, who has been coming back from mononucleosis, is one player who needs to see more action.

He said there’s no decision yet on activating any of the freshman cornerbacks. But freshman safety Grayson Miller has moved up to No. 2 on the depth chart a previous No. 2 safety, Mark Meyers, remains suspended and Dantonio said Miller will get a chance this week to show what he can do in practice.
