Watch the Redskins’ Jordan Reed get ejected for punching the Panthers’ Kurt Coleman in the face

Washington tight end Jordan Reed got some extra time to nurse the injured shoulder that appeared to be bothering him Monday night against Carolina.

Reed was ejected from the game after punching Panthers safety Kurt Coleman in the face mask during the final minute of the third quarter.

With the Redskins down by 14 but deep in Carolina territory, Reed was trying to block Coleman during a running play. Afterward, Reed appeared unhappy with the way the encounter between them ended — it appears Coleman took more than one swing in the direction of Reed’s face — so he let his fist fly.

“He was trying to block me. I was trying to get off the block. The play seemed over,” Coleman said after the game. “One thing we work on is finishing. You don’t let someone stay blocked. Even though you may be blocked, you’re not going to stay blocked. So I’m getting him off me, and he swung. Honestly, I don’t know what led to that point.”

Reed was not in the locker room to talk to reporters after the game.

The fourth-year tight end missed the Redskins’ game Dec. 4 against Arizona and didn’t play much last week against Philadelphia after separating his shoulder against Dallas on Thanksgiving. On Monday, he had just one catch for six yards and appeared to be in pain after taking some hits.
