Angels sign veteran reliever Matt Lindstrom to a minor league deal
The Angels have agreed to terms with veteran reliever Matt Lindstrom on a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.
Lindstrom, 35, has a 3.68 earned-run average and 51 saves in eight major league seasons, and he was a closer for part of the 2009 season in Florida and 2010 in Houston.
The right-hander went 2-2 with a 5.03 ERA and six saves in 35 games for the Chicago White Sox last season.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Lindstrom’s fastball averaged 97 mph in his first five big-league seasons (2007 to 2011), but it dropped to 95 mph in 2013 and 93.1 mph in 2014.
His strikeouts-per-nine-innings rate fell from 8.4 in 2012 to 6.8 in 2013 and 4.8 in 2014.
