Johnny Damon won a World Series title with the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, but here’s guessing he is more proud of the 2004 title with the Sox.

Damon appeared on MLB Network Radio on Thursday and said he believes that the World Series title he won with the Yankees in 2009 would be diminished if Alex Rodriguez used performance-enhancing drugs that year, as Major League Baseball is charging.

Damon was asked if the title loses some of its luster if it turns out Rodriguez was on some sort of performance-enhancing drug and said, “If that’s how he was able to hit in the postseason like he did that year, then yeah, absolutely. Then you start going and saying: ‘Was anybody else on the team cheating.’

“There’s just so many different factors that determine if a team wins, and A-Rod was a huge determining factor. He was the MVP of the ALCS. He played a pretty huge part.

Rodriguez hit .365 with five doubles, six home runs and 18 RBIs in the 2009 playoffs.
