LeSean McCoy has been under fire after a Philadelphia restaurant owner tweeted a receipt revealing the Eagles star left a 20-cent tip on a $61.56 food bill earlier this week.

McCoy came to his own defense Thursday, saying he had good reason for being such a lousy tipper on that particular day.

“I tip on my service,” McCoy said Thursday. “There’s a difference between good service and bad service and just having a bad day. There’s a big difference between just being rude and disrespectful. That’s how that went.”

McCoy added: “A 20-cent tip is kind of a statement. You can’t disrespect somebody and expect them to tip you. I don’t care who the person is. That’s why I left my card, so they could see my name.”

PYT restaurant owner Tommy Up had a different version of what happened when he took to social media about the incident on Tuesday.

“He and his group, from the moment they sat down, were verbally abusive to our staff in the most insulting ways. The derogatory statements about women and their sheer contempt for the staff serving them wasn’t the end, however,” Up wrote of McCoy on Facebook. “After Mr McCoy and his group left I looked over and saw their server, my friend, with his head bowed down and with a very confused look on his face.”

McCoy says his reputation and that of PYT speak for themselves.

“Any restaurant I go around Philadelphia, I tip very well,” he said. “You check on that restaurant. Everybody was talking bad about that place [on Facebook and Twitter]. But good food, good food.”

Too bad he probably won’t be enjoying those tasty treats anymore.
