Ducks’ Corey Perry remains sidelined by flu
Ducks right wing Corey Perry will need at least one more game off to recover from flu, Coach Bruce Boudreau said Friday following the team’s morning skate without Perry at Honda Center.
Perry, leading the NHL with 11 goals, was a late scratch Wednesday along with first-line mate Ryan Getzlaf before the Ducks (10-3-1) lost in overtime to the New York Islanders.
Getzlaf didn’t participate at the optional skate Friday morning but is expected to play tonight against the Arizona Coyotes (5-6-1), Boudreau said.
“I don’t think Perry will be around for tonight,” Boudreau said.
The coach said he hadn’t spoken to Perry as of 11 a.m.
“I just know where he is, know he’s not feeling up to par yet,” Boudreau said.
ANDERSEN FIRST OFF: This time it matters that Ducks goalie Frederik Andersen left the ice first at Friday’s skate.
After he was first off before Wednesday’s game, an indication he would start that night, Andersen huddled with Boudreau and the coach opted to give Andersen (7-1) another game off, starting veteran backup Jason LaBarbera.
Andersen suffered leg tightness in last Friday’s overtime win in Dallas, and fellow goalie John Gibson is sidelined six weeks with a groin injury.
Andersen and Boudreau said knowing the goalie is now at 100% clinched the decision that he’ll start.
THEY NEED ONE: The Ducks have just one point to show for their last two home games, an unusual occurrence for a team that set a franchise record for home victories last season, going 29-8-4.
“It’s a good time to get back,” Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano said.
Arizona has given up 44 goals this season, its minus-13 goals differential the third-worst in the NHL.
