Robert Allenby says he is still haunted by nightmares of being kidnapped and robbed in Honolulu, even if police there never found any evidence that the assault took place.

After missing the cut at the PGA Tour’s Sony Open in January, Allenby, showing up with bruises and cuts to his face, reported to police that he had been kidnapped and robbed after going to a local bar with friends.

“I fall over maybe 10 times because I’m all drugged out and I don’t know where I am or what happened,” Allenby said, describing his dreams to USA Today. “Then this lady grabs my arm and starts pulling me down the street telling them to get away. And then I say, ‘What’s going on?’ She says, ‘We better get out of here. They’re going to kill you. They’re bad people. They do nasty things to people.’

“Then they’re yelling at me, ‘We’re going to kill you.’ ... It’s just stuck in my head and I’m trying to deal with it. It’s not an easy thing to deal with.”

Police made one arrest related to the incident, charging a local man for making unauthorized charges on Allenby’s credit cards.

According to a report by the Golf Channel, Allenby actually spent most of the night in question at a strip club, where he ran up a bill of more than $3,400.

Allenby played in 25 PGA events this season, missing the cut 14 times, and fired a caddie midround at the Canadian Open. His best finish of the year, a tie for eighth, came before the alleged incident took place.

“Mentally, I have so much fear inside me,” said Allenby, who has begun seeing a psychiatrist.
