Stacy Davis breaks Pepperdine basketball’s all-time scoring record

Almost five years ago, Stacy Davis was just another player at Pepperdine’s summer basketball camp. The coaching staff initially planned to evaluate someone else.

Davis’ play changed their mind. Apparently, they made the right decision.

On Thursday, Davis became the school’s all-time leading scorer in a loss to San Francisco, breaking a record set in 1983 by Dane Suttle. Davis now has 1,713 career points.

“You know, it hasn’t really hit me yet, but it feels good,” Davis told reporters afterward. “It’s a moment that I will absolutely remember for the rest of my life.”

Davis ranks high on other Pepperdine records lists. He is second in free throws, third in rebounds and sixth in double-doubles.

And he has help resurrect a program that won 10 games the season before he arrived. During his nearly four seasons in the program, Pepperdine has won 61 games.

“He deserves it,” Coach Marty Wilson said. “He’s been the cornerstone, the building block, in the development of this program.”
