Stanford loses star defensive end Ben Gardner to season-ending injury
Stanford doesn’t host No. 2 Oregon for more than a week but has already been thrown for a huge loss.
The school announced Tuesday that star defensive end Ben Gardner is out for the season with a left pectoral injury suffered in Saturday’s win over Oregon State.
Gardner, a fifth-year senior, had 4.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss this season and is the heart of Stanford’s stalwart 3-4 defensive front line.
The line is already without defensive end Henry Anderson, who suffered a knee injury against Army on Sept. 14. Coach David Shaw said Tuesday it is not known if Anderson will be available against Oregon.
