USC quarterback Cody Kessler continues to garner preseason recognition.

Kessler, a fifth-year senior, was named to the watch list for the Davey O’Brien Award, presented annually to college football’s top quarterback.

Kessler also is regarded as a Heisman Trophy candidate after passing for 39 touchdowns and five interceptions last season.

This will be Kessler’s third season as the Trojans’ starter.

The Bakersfield native has passed for 6,803 yards and 59 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for his career.

No USC player has won the O’Brien Award.

USC opens the season Sept. 5 against Arkansas State.
