In January, Times photojournalists spanned the Southland covering more than 300 assignments, from the sandy — and, for a moment, icy — shores, to deep inside hospital ICUs impacted by the pandemic. Our photographers traveled as far as the nation’s capital, where we covered the unrest surrounding the inauguration of President Biden. We (ate) photographed some Filipino food in Eagle Rock for our Food section (and it was delicious). In entertainment, we got to meet Andra Day and Leslie Odom Jr. along with more rising stars. And after a year, Los Angeles still mourns the loss of Kobe and Gigi.

The Los Angeles Times Photo Department proudly presents to you this month as captured by our world-class photojournalists.

Thank you for reading and supporting local journalism.
