Chill out and listen to tales of Alaska’s bush pilots, then take off to flightsee

Share

Here’s a chance to chill and learn history from America’s Last Frontier: Alaska’s bush pilots will share tales from the 49th state during free, summertime chats in Anchorage.

For $30, you also can fly in a floatplane as part of the Talk on the Dock program.

The lectures are on the dock of the Lakefront Anchorage hotel, which sits on the shore of Lake Hood, a large seaplane base just a few miles from downtown.

Hotel guests and the public are welcome at the talks at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 15.

After the 20-minute presentation by pilots from Regal Air, attendees can hop aboard a floatplane for a tour of the city and the mountains. The 15-minute rides take off and land on water.

No advance booking is needed. And don’t worry about it getting dark. The sun doesn’t set in Anchorage in late June until shortly before midnight.

Info: (907) 243-2300.

Anchorage visitors who want to delve further into the storied history of bush pilots in the unforgiving wilderness should make time to see the Alaska Aviation Museum, also beside Lake Hood.
