Looking for a room in New York? 10 new hotels, from frugal to spendy

Finding the right hotel in New York City is rarely easy, but it helps to have options. Here are 10 new ones -- stylish independents, thrifty Holiday Inns and spendy Hyatts, all opened in the last 10 months.

Holiday Inn Express Herald Square, with 135 rooms on West 36th St., opened in January.

Holiday Inn Express NYC West Side, with 177 rooms on West 48th St., opened in May.

Holiday Inn NYC Lower East Side, with 132 rooms on Delancey St., opened in March.

Hyatt Place New York Midtown South, with 185 rooms on West 36th St., opened in March.

Hyatt Union Square New York, with 178 rooms on Fourth Ave., opened in April.

The Jade Hotel, with 113 rooms on West 13th. St. in Greenwich Village, opened March 1.

Refinery Hotel, with 197 rooms on West 38th St., opened in May.

The Viceroy New York, with 240 rooms on West 57th St., opened Oct 9.

The Hyatt Times Square, with 487 rooms on West 45th St., isn’t open yet, but is taking reservations for stays beginning Dec. 3 and after.

Holiday Inn Jamaica Queens JFK Airport, with 201 rooms on Brookville Blvd. about 10 minutes from JFK airport and 45 minutes from Manhattan, is taking reservations for arrivals beginning Jan. 5, 2014, and after.

Two more upscale Manhattan hotels due to open sometime soon: The Quin on West 57th St. and the SLS, “coming to Park Avenue in 2014.”
