Monterey Christmas in the Adobes
Monterey’s 19th century adobes are filled with reminders of Christmases past during the annual holiday open house. The 20 historic sites are decked out in period decorations, and entertainment will recall an earlier era. There will be a fandango at the Custom House, said to be California’s oldest public building, and 1840s music and Mexican hot chocolate at Casa Soberanes. An actor portraying Robert Louis Stevenson will be on hand at the Stevenson House. Costumed docents and on-site staff will talk about the history of the buildings. New this year: the circa-1830s Alvarado Adobe, built by Juan Bautista Alvarado, governor of Alta California.
When, where: 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 6 and 8 at locations in Monterey. Tickets and brochures, with a map and a short description of each building, are available at Pacific House Museum, 10 Custom House Plaza, and Cooper-Museum Store, 525 Polk St.
Cost: $17 if purchased by Thursday; $20 thereafter; children ages 6 to 17, $2; 5 and younger, free.
