New York’s Great Jack-o-Lantern Blaze

More than 4,000 pumpkins are intricately carved and composed into elaborate scenes, such as a “Dead Sea,” featuring skeletal fish and a full-size dinosaur skeleton, during the monthlong event at New York’s Van Cortlandt Manor. The former home of a prominent New York family is a historic site open for tours with costumed guides.

When, where: Oct. 5 to 7, 11 to 14, 18 to 21 and 24 to 31 at the house, 525 S. Riverside Ave., off New York 9 in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.

Cost: Tickets vary depending on night: $14 or $15 for adults; kids 5 to 17, $10 or $12; kids 4 and younger free.
