Hyatt Hotels & Resorts is offering up to $150 worth of credit for restaurant meals, drinks, in-room food orders and more at certain hotels. Basically the longer you stay, the higher the credit value.

The deal: The Welcome Credit package comes with a $75 credit for two nights, $125 credit for three nights and $150 credit for four nights. It requires a two-night minimum stay, and package prices vary from site to site.

The offer is good at selected hotels in the U.S., as well as Canada, Asia, Europe and other overseas locations. Among participating hotels in California are Hyatt Regencys in Irvine, Long Beach, Newport Beach, Palm Springs, Santa Rosa and San Francisco, as well as Andaz locations in San Diego and West Hollywood. Use the code “WELCRE” when making a reservation.

When: The offer is good for stays through Dec. 30.

Tested: I like this deal, but it doesn’t allow any wiggle room. The package must be paid in full when you make the reservation, the rate is nonrefundable and dates cannot be changed.

Because rates for this package vary by hotel, I checked more than one. I found the deal available at the Hyatt Regency Irvine, for example, at $179 plus tax a night for two nights starting July 8 -- just $10 more than the daily rate without the hotel credit. Plus I could “spend” the $75 credit to eat or drink at the hotel’s grill or bar, watch in-room movies or have a pool-side drink.

I also checked out the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok in the Thai capital. I found availability for the package for four nights starting July 8 for about $253 a night excluding tax. The daily rate was about $20 more -- without the hotel credit.
