Arizona: Resort’s room sale marks London Bridge’s 40th year

How can a bridge built in 1831 be turning 40? It’s a bit of a trick question. The bridge is London Bridge on this side of the pond, and the 40th hoopla marks the year it was brought from England and carefully re-created in the Arizona desert.

If you’ve never seen it, now might be a good time to take a gander. The waterfront London Bridge Resort in Lake Havasu City marks the landmark’s 40th year with rooms starting at $80 a night.

The deal: The 40 for 40 London Bridge Anniversary Special starts at $40 per person (based on double occupancy) plus tax and fees; breakfast also is included. There’s more to do at this resort near the California border than just see the bridge; fishing, kayaking and boat rentals on Lake Havasu are part of what makes the area popular with families.

When: The offer is good for stays through Nov. 22.

Tested: I found availability for a one-bedroom suite from Nov. 11 to 13 for $80 a night, excluding tax and resort fees. Total cost for a two-night stay for two: $210. The same room on the same nights usually goes for $111 a night plus tax and fees.
