Power up while on the move with FatCat Gear’s pocket-size charger

Share

Always on the look-out for backup power sources for mobile electronic devices, we were smitten by the PowerBar from FatCat Gear. About the size of a cellphone, the battery pack can charge up most cellphones, music players and handheld gaming systems, a welcome aid when no outlet is at hand.

The pocket-sized charger uses a long-lasting lithium battery that can retain up to 80% of its charge after one year of non-use, making it good to have on hand in case of emergencies (although recharging every three months is recommended). The PowerBar 4200 has a voltage range up to 5.5V; the PowerBar 9600 is about double that, making the latter suitable for power-hungry iPads and other tablets.

The battery packs can power devices while being charged, and come with charging cables and interchangeable tips for most devices (additional tips also available at an extra charge). The batteries come fully charged for immediate use, and recharge in 4- to 7 hours.
