How the West was run: New pass links ski resorts in four states

Four big ski resorts in the West are teaming up to offer a one-of-a-kind pass for skiing and snowboarding next winter that spans eight mountains in four states.

The Mountain Collective Pass goes on sale Tuesday (today) and allows users two free days at Alta in Utah, Aspen/Snowmass (which includes Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk) in Colorado, Jackson Hole in Wyoming and Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows in the Lake Tahoe area. Once free days are used up, skiers receive half off lift tickets for the rest of the season -- and there are no blackout dates.

“I really think this would appeal to almost any skier or boarder,” says Jenny Kendrick, public relations manager for Alpine Meadows. “These four mountain destinations are probably on just about any passionate skier or boarder’s bucket list.”

Pass holders also will receive a heads up on exclusive lodging deals throughout the season.

Passes cost $349 per adult and $229 per child (12 and younger) for the 2012-13 winter season until Nov. 19; prices may change after that date. They are available at Liftopia, www.themountaincollective.com or call (800) 705-6286.
