Vietnam: Michelin 3-star chef to open at Intercontinental Danang

The Vietnam dining scene promises to be kicked up a notch next month when three-star Michelin chef Michel Roux launches his first restaurant in Asia at the new Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, which opened this summer in Danang City on the East Sea.

La Maison 1888, scheduled to launch Dec. 12, will offer French cuisine in a colonial-style mansion overlooking scenic Monkey Mountain.

Roux, a French native well-known in Europe for his classic culinary expertise, opened the three-star Le Gavroche in Britain in 1967 and later the Waterside Inn, also in Britain. Le Gavroche became a Michelin three-star restaurant in the ‘80s, although it has since dropped back to two. Chefs such as Gordon Ramsay and Marco Pierre White have trained with Roux.

“We believe that La Maison 1888 will become a must-visit restaurant in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Tony Marrinan, general manager of the Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula. “We are delighted to work with Michel Roux and be the first resort in Vietnam to have a restaurant operated by a renowned three-starred Michelin chef.”

The Intercontinental perches on the hills of Vietnam’s Son Tra Peninsula, close to the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Hue, Hoi An and My Son. The beachfront property has 197 rooms, suites and villas. Double rooms start at $230, with breakfast.
