Las Vegas: Artist to create gown as Cosmo designer in residence
An artist-in-residence program underway through April 21 at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas allows visitors to see women’s apparel created without a single swatch of fabric.
Designer Jennifer Henry will be showcasing the clothing that she describes as “alternative material couture” inside the resort’s P3 Studio.
Live models and mannequins will be wearing her one-of-a-kind dresses. A photo exhibit will illustrate more of the 200 creations she has made since starting her Flockflockflock design business in 2009.
Instead of working with traditional fabrics, Henry crafts her garments from materials that seem straight out of a designers’ challenge on “Project Runway.” They include cellophane and tissue paper, often “stitched” together using packing tape.
Henry will be in the gallery 6-11 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays. She’ll be working on a gown that will make its debut at the finale of her residence. Guests can contribute by crinkling a piece of paper that will become part of the new dress.
Artists working in a variety of media take turns using the P3 Studio. It’s part of the Cosmopolitan’s larger program in which artists are encouraged to develop projects that are interactive and participatory.
The artist-in-residence program is operated in partnership with Art Production Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating ambitious public art projects.
