Las Vegas: Something fishy (delightfully so) about this wedding

Share

An Austrian couple is ditching a hitching at a Vegas wedding chapel and instead will tie the knot inside the giant aquarium at the Silverton Casino Hotel. The public is invited to join in the April 18 celebration, observing the underwater ceremony through the tank’s 12-by-25-foot viewing window.

Stephan Fletzberger and Andrea Fischer adore scuba diving (and each other, of course). With the help of resort staff, they arranged to get married amid the thousands of sharks, sting rays and other fish that live in the 117,000-gallon aquarium.

Besides scuba gear, the bride will wear a real wedding gown, fitted with weights to hold its shape underwater. She’ll carry a custom bouquet made of synthetic coral. The groom’s tuxedo will boast a coral boutonniere.

Two of the hotel’s “mermaids” will serve as bridesmaids for the 7 p.m. ceremony.

A minister will officiate from outside the tank. He’ll communicate with the couple using special audio equipment.

Friends and family will gather, along with spectators, outside the glass. The ceremony will also be streamed live via webcam.

The Silverton (3333 Blue Diamond Road) is a few miles south of the Strip, along Interstate 15 at the Blue Diamond exit.
