Out with the Courtyard by Marriott, in with the DoubleTree by Hilton.

That’s pretty much what happened with the hotel at 13480 Maxella Ave. in Marina del Rey. It opened in late March under the new name Hotel MdR Marina del Rey (so nice they named it twice?).

What’s new is the upgraded decor of the 277 rooms and suites, but more changes are yet to come, according to a Hilton Worldwide announcement.

Hilton, which has partnered with Channel West Group and Arris Investment LLC in this venture, plans to spend $7 million to give the building the DoubleTree treatment.

That includes adding six more rooms, a poolside restaurant, an outdoor fireplace/fire pit area, a ping-pong room and redoing the lobby and front desk areas.

And there will be a fitness center and business center, both open 24/7. Work is expected to begin in November and be completed in February.

Room rates in summer (non-discounted) start at $179 a night plus tax. As an opening perk, guests who stay through June 30 will receive double points in Hilton’s loyalty program HHonors.
