Who can turn down a free day to mingle with penguins and a new harbor seal pup? Seniors Day at Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach offers free entrance Sept. 6 for the 50-and-older crowd.

The deal: A valid ID is all that’s needed for seniors to receive free admission to the museum that houses 11,000 ocean animals from nearly 500 species. Fish, sea creatures, the Shark Lagoon, the Magellanic penguins and other displays highlight what dwells in the southern and northern Pacific Ocean. Visitors also are allowed to swing by the Molina Animal Care Center to see how an animal hospital operates.

When: The offer is good 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 6.

Details: If you haven’t been to this aquarium in a while, check out the new baby harbor seal Toby, who was born in May. Two baby penguin chicks born in June are slated to go on display soon too. The Seniors Day admission saves the usual $25.95 adult ticket to enter.
