Whole Journeys serves up fresh food adventures around the world

Want to go traveling with your supermarket? Whole Foods Market this year kicked off a travel venture in January called Whole Journeys that promises authentic food and food experiences for active travelers.

Trips throughout the year cover eight destinations -- from a culinary tour of Idaho’s Salmon River to tea ceremonies in China -- and accent artisan cheese and wine makers, visits to local farms, cooking classes and other food-centric activities led by local experts. And yes, there’s hiking and bicycling on some of the trips too.

For example, an “active foodie” trip called Turkish Delights spends nine days sampling local olive groves and fruit orchards near Izmir, visits the Wild Greens festival in Alcati (April trip only) and farmers markets in Urla, explores wineries near Ephesus as well as the rocky castles and landscape of Cappadocia. Participants can expect to walk three to five miles daily.

When: The tour runs April 13-21 and Sept. 20-28.

Price: $4,395 per person, double occupancy. It includes lodgings, most meals, airport transfers, ground transportation, admission to attractions and guide. International airfare is extra.
