Pacific Northwest: Bike the Ring of Fire from Seattle to Portland

Share

When I lived in the Northwest 15 years ago, I loved to go mountain biking on the trails around devastated Mt. St. Helens, which blew its top in 1980. More than 50 died.

Cyclists who’d like to see how St. Helens has changed -- and mellowed -- in the ensuing three-plus decades may want to consider a pair of intermediate to advanced tours by Bicycle Adventures that includes three other volcanoes –- all dormant, of course.

The trip along the Pacific Northwest’s Ring of Fire is an eight-day, seven-night road ride from Seattle to Portland by way of some 20 major volcanic centers that comprise the Pacific Northwest’s Cascade Range.

The most notable volcano is Mt. St. Helens. Others on the trip include Mt. Rainier, which last exploded in 1854, Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams.

The per-person, double rate of $3,495 includes accommodations, among others, at two National Park lodges, all meals except one lunch and one dinner, experienced guide services, van support and more. Departures are July 20 and Aug. 10.

The tour traverses up to 70 hilly miles daily while staring into the face of the Cascades.
