Las Vegas: Young musicians to take spotlight in Jazz in the Park
Some of the nation’s most talented young musicians are scheduled to take the stage in Las Vegas the next two Saturdays as part of the free Jazz in the Park concert series.
The Jazz Combo from the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, Southern Nevada’s performing arts high school, is to perform as the house band. The May 18 concert features the Jeff Hamilton Trio. Tom Scott, a multi-talented musician and founder of the Blues Brothers Band, headlines the May 25 show.
The series continues with Earl Klugh on June 1 and Pete Escovedo on June 8.
The concerts are set for the amphitheater at the Clark County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway in downtown Las Vegas. Admission and parking are free. Food vendors will be selling their wares.
All concerts begin at 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m., and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.
The Las Vegas Academy Jazz Combo has won more Signature Grammy awards than any other high school ensemble in the U.S.
“The skill these young musicians have far surpasses their ages,” Pat Bowen, an instructor at the academy, said in a news release. “This is an opportunity not many young musicians ever experience, and we’re all honored to play alongside artists with such storied and admirable careers.”
