You’ll have to pay to play at a casino or stay overnight at 12 MGM Resorts properties in Las Vegas when the company begins charging parking fees next month.

Prices vary from hotel to hotel, but range from $8 to $10 a day for self-parking and $13 to $18 a day for valet.

FOR THE RECORD

10:20 a.m.: An earlier version of this article stated that guests staying at MGM Resorts wouldn’t have to pay the upcoming parking fees. Most guests will be subject to the fees.

------------

The charges will be rolled out June 6 at Aria, Bellagio, Monte Carlo, New York-New York and Vdara. Circus Circus (valet only), Excalibur and Luxor will start charging June 7, with MGM Grand and The Mirage to follow June 8.

Parking fees will begin June 13 at Delano and Mandalay Bay.

Guests at MGM Resorts hotels pay the parking fee (it’s not part of the resort fee) but have in-and-out privileges and can use any other MGM lots without paying again.

Higher-tier members of MLife, the MGM Resorts rewards program, are excluded from paying for parking.

The company recognizes the fees are “breaking with Las Vegas tradition,” an MGM Resorts report says. An included graphic shows charges are considerably lower than other cities around the country.

The report says self-parking and valet average $22 and $35, respectively, in L.A., and $47 and $56 in San Francisco.

The new parking charges are drawing complaints on the Facebook page for LasVegas.com.

“I guess I’ll be going to the other casinos all the time,” Robert Kurtyka writes. “I’ll give them the money that MGM would have received.”

“It’s so scarry (sic) how Vegas is changing,” Kelly Henderson bemoans. “Some one (sic) is taking all the fun out of it.”

No other resorts along the Strip have announced plans to follow suit.

A statement from Caesars Entertainment, which operates 10 Vegas hotels, said: “We are evaluating the many complex issues associated with a parking fee; there is no timetable for a decision.”

A spokesman for The Palazzo and The Venetian said, “We have no current plans to introduce a parking fee.”

At Wynn-Encore, a spokesman said “We are monitoring the situation and have not yet made any decisions.”
