Los Angeles Times staff photographer Mary Frampton took this weather photo during a heavy San Fernando Valley shower. For her efforts, Frampton won best photograph in the suburban sections at the 1964 Los Angeles Times Editorial Awards.

According to a Jan. 30, 1964, Los Angeles Times story, each of the 10 major winners — including Frampton — won five shares of Times-Mirror Co. stock. Over 300 people attended the awards program at the Biltmore Hotel.
