Author James Dashner is writing a prequel to "The Maze Runner." The book, slated for 2016 with publisher Random House Children's Books, will be titled "The Fever Code."
Dashner has already written four books in the series -- "The Maze Runner," "Scorch Trials" and "The Death Cure" as a trilogy, plus one prequel, "The Kill Order." But he has more of the story to explore.
"From the very beginning, I've always wanted to write a prequel about Thomas, Teresa, Newt, Minho, Alby and all the Gladers that leads up to the very moment Thomas enters the Box," Dashner said in a release. "There are so many things hinted at that will be fun to reveal in depth. For years, fans have made it abundantly and enthusiastically clear that they want the same thing, so now seems like the perfect time to give readers the story of how the Maze began."
The news comes as Dashner may be garnering even more readers. The movie adaptation of Dashner's "The Maze Runner" led the box office last weekend, taking in $32.5 million.
Before the weekend was out, the movie sequel, "The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials" was announced.
Because film will arrive in September 2015, before Dashner's prequel, it's possible the films will steer even more readers to the book series.
