Bill toughens up licensing process

Beginning Oct. 1, 2007, applicants for real estate licenses will be required to complete all three of the courses mandated by the California Department of Real Estate before taking the license examination, under a bill recently signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The California Assn. of Realtors sponsored the bill.

Under the current rules, applicants may take only one class, pass the exam, get a conditional license and take 18 months to complete the requirements while engaging in real estate activity.
