Daniel Radcliffe in ‘Horns’ continues to move past Harry Potter
“Horns,” starring Daniel Radcliffe and directed by Alexandre Aja, has been picked up for distribution by Dimension and Radius-TWC, with plans for a 2014 theatrical release.
The supernatural thriller premiered last month at the Toronto International Film Festival, where Radcliffe also appeared in the romantic comedy “The F Word” and as the young poet Allen Ginsberg in “Kill Your Darlings.” The 24-year-old actor seems to be in the midst of fully launching himself into the next phase of his career after his run in the “Harry Potter” franchise.
“Horns” finds Radcliffe playing a young man who finds himself blamed for the death of his girlfriend, played by Juno Temple. He then discovers a pair of horns growing from his head. The film, based on a novel by Joe Hill and adapted by Keith Bunin, also stars Max Minghella, Joe Anderson, Kelli Garner, Heather Graham, David Morse, Kathleen Quinlan and James Remar.

At a Los Angeles Times Indie Focus Screening Series event earlier this week for “Kill Your Darlings,” Radcliffe appeared alongside costar Dane DeHaan, director and co-writer John Krokidas and co-writer Austin Bunn to discuss the film’s depiction of the birth of the Beat Generation.
The first question from the audience referred to Harry Potter and how long Radcliffe thought it would take for him to move on from being so closely associated with the character.
“That’s not really up to me. For me, I have,” he said. “I know I’ve spent 10 years playing an incredibly famous character, and for some people I will always remain that and for some people I won’t. And I completely accept that. As long as it’s not affecting casting directors’ decisions, then I’m OK.
“I do get asked a lot if I’m worried about being typecast. And I haven’t been thus far,” Radcliffe continued. “I think if you show you’re willing to put yourself out there and do stuff that’s different, people will give you the opportunity to do that. As for how long it will take, I don’t know. When you see me introduced on a television show without it being mentioned, you’ll know.”
