Jennifer Lopez joins RedOne’s label, issues ‘Live It Up’ single

Jennifer Lopez has inked a deal with RedOne’s 2101 Records for her eighth studio album, the label announced Wednesday.

Lopez’s deal marks the first under the label’s new exclusive multiyear worldwide agreement with Capitol Records.

The new partnership shouldn’t come as a surprise. RedOne, the Moroccan-born producer/songwriter who has crafted smashes for Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and Enrique Iglesias, has played a critical role in reviving Lopez’s previously lukewarm music career after the multi-hyphenate superstar was dropped from longtime label Sony.

Her massive comeback single, 2011’s “On the Floor” was the first of a handful of collaborations between her and RedOne, who executive-produced her last album, “Love?” “On the Floor” went No. 1 in more than 30 countries, sold nearly 4 million copies, and its video is one of the most watched of all time. The success of “On the Floor” and her stint as a judge on “American Idol” helped the disc bow in the top five on Billboard’s 200 charts -- something Lopez hadn’t accomplished since 2005’s “Rebirth.”

Ahead of the album, which RedOne will again executive-produce, Lopez premiered her new single, “Live It Up” early Wednesday.

Produced by RedOne, Lopez once again teams with Pitbull, who lent himself to “On the Floor” and last year’s “Dance Again” for the club-ready anthem. “Live It Up” is the typical Euro-pop jam that RedOne probably weaves in his sleep with heavy synths, a shouty chorus, and a fist-pumping breakdown that sounds perfect for summer.

Lopez will perform the new single live on the “American Idol” finale (there have been rumors that producers want her to replace Mariah Carey) and the upcoming Billboard Music Awards.

Before her new deal, Lopez issued music through Island Def Jam. RedOne’s 2101 Records will be distributed by Universal Music Group’s Capitol Records and its operations based at the Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood.
