Art and Essay Contest
Grades 4-12

Art Contest for Grades 4-6
Draw or create a piece of art depicting a Los Angeles Dodgers-related sports theme. You may used any medium to illustrate your drawing (including pen, pencil, crayon or paints), and it should be on an 8 ½” sheet of paper.

Essay Contest for Grades 7-12
In 500 words or less, write about the Topic listed below. Your essay must be typed and double-spaced.
Topic/Question To be a professional athlete, it takes a lot of hard work, a good diet, exercise and staying away from bad habits like smoking. Without a commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle, Dodger superstars like Jeff Kent and Eric Gagné wouldn’t be where they are today. How is this important in the quality of your life and the achievement of your goals?

Deadline
Entries must be received by April 14, 2006.

Judging
Artwork will be judges in three grade categories (4th, 5th and 6th), with first-, second- and third-lace winners chosen in each category.

Essays will be judged in six grade categories (7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th), with first-, second-, and third-lace winners chosen in each category.

In addition, a Grand Prize Art and a Grand Prize Essay winner will be chosen. Their winning entries will be published in a Los Angeles Times recognition ad.

For teachers: Each first-place winner’s teach wins a $100 American Express Gift Cheque.

Contest winners will be recognized at an Awards Luncheon hosted by the Los Angeles Times.

Rules
Students in grade 4-12 in public or private schools throughout Southern California are eligible to participate. Artwork or essays must be received by April 14, 2006.
