Levi’s holiday program lets you ship donated clothes for free and help fund Goodwill
San Francisco-based Levi Strauss & Co. has announced a partnership with Goodwill Industries International that will allow U.S. customers to ship apparel and footwear donations -- free of charge -- to their local Goodwill as well as generate a $5-per-box donation by Levi’s during the holiday season.
The process works like this: Pack a box full of clean, dry clothing or shoes (the brand doesn’t matter), seal it up and tape on a free shipping label that can be printed at either levi.com/goodwill or dockers.com/goodwill. Entering your ZIP Code routes the donation to the nearest participating location (which, in the case of downtown Los Angeles is a Goodwill facility in Oxnard).
While it’s not absolutely necessary to go through Levi’s above websites to print the free shipping labels (the company facilitating the process, Give Back Box already provides free shipping to Goodwill through its own site), doing so could benefit Goodwill even further since Levi Strauss & Co. will donate $5 per box shipped between now and Dec. 31 up to $50,000 (with a guaranteed minimum donation of $25,000).
In addition, Levi’s has pledged to double that donation to $10 per box for labels printed on “Giving Tuesday” (Dec. 1) the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday that is gaining traction as a designated day to focus on charitable efforts and organizations. (Note: The packages don’t need to be shipped on that specific date to qualify for the donation -- but they do have to be shipped.)
Finally, a win-win of a way to get rid of all those leftover gift boxes this holiday season.
