R&B artist turned juicer opening Green Grotto Juice Bar in downtown L.A.

Green Grotto Juice Bar, a cold-pressed juice bar, will open in the Spring Arcade Building on Friday. It’s the latest addition to the downtown building, whose recent revamp includes the addition of Guisados and Gelateria Uli.

But the man behind the business isn’t an experienced restaurateur. He’s an actor and R&B artist named Kieran Roberts, who has opened for Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Boyz II Men and more. Roberts has been experimenting with juice cleanses and detoxing for the past 12 years and decided to turn his hobby into a business.

For the record: An earlier version of this post said Roberts had been juicing for two years. He’s been juicing for 12.

On the menu are cold-pressed juices made from locally sourced organic produce, herbal teas, organic coffees and smoothies. To eat, a selection of Caribbean patties made with chicken, beef or vegetables, and a variety of acai bowls.

“I brought audiences together using my voice, however I hated being on the road and forced to eat unhealthy meals due to time or scheduling constrictions,” Roberts said in a statement. “I want to create an inviting space to allow those who are passionate about health and those newly introduced to the lifestyle to coexist.”

The space will feature an array of music and artwork, but will also have multiple TVs and classic board games. There will be seating for around 20 and free WiFi; and each table comes equipped with an electronic charging station.

Green Grotto Juice Bar will be open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
