Create one-of-a-kind Valentines at craft workshops
Express your feelings for a loved one directly on to the heart-shaped plate of a monotype as artist Christina Carroll hosts two small printmaking sessions in honor of Valentine’s Day.
On her website, the Los Angeles printmaker describes a monotype print as a one-of-a-kind image that is created on a plate using “additive or subtractive methods of oil or water-based paint.” Using damp paper, the inked plate is then printed on a press, resulting in a one-of-a-kind work of art.
For the workshop on Sunday, Carroll plans to transport her printing press to the Craft in America Center on 3rd Street.
“These mixed-media projects are always really fun,” said Emily Zaiden, director of the Craft in America Center. “We get a range of participants from kids to grown-ups and she caters the workshop to each person’s needs.”
The two workshops will be held at noon and 3:30 p.m. at 8415 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles. $35 fee includes all materials. Reservations are required. (323) 951-0610.
In another Valentine’s Day-related workshop, the garden and lifestyle store Potted in Atwater Village is hosting an air plant class on Saturday. Participants can create mobiles or wall hangings for Valentine’s Day using up to three tillandsias. The class runs from 10:30 a.m. to noon. $45 fee includes instruction and all materials. Reservations and prepayment are required.
